Jeremy Jacobs will spend the money when he wants to. Not for the fans or for the team mind you. But for 'revenge' on a fellow owner.

skinflint, noun: a selfish person who is unwilling to give or spend

Detroit Red Wings Owner Mike Ilitch lifting one of the FOUR Stanley Cups he has brought to the city of Detroit.

Jacobs signed Lapointe to a 4 year $20 Million dollar contract to get revenge on Red Wings owner Mike Ilitch
Jeremy Jacobs signs Martin Lapointe to 4 year $20 Million contract to stick it to Mike Ilitch.
In what may be the most dispicable and disgraceful thing Jeremy Jacobs has done in a long list of unconscionable dealings is the signing of Martin Lapointe to a $5 Million a year deal for 4 years...

"What was the most stupid deal – among dozens – that's caused owners to demand Cost Certainty? Our choice is the Bruins' four-year $20 million pact for Martin Lapointe. The tale behind that one goes back a year before Lapointe was signed. Supposedly, Bruins’ owner Jeremy Jacobs and Detroit owner Mike Ilitch feuded at an owners’ meeting. According to one report, Ilitch called Jacobs a skinflint for not trying to spend and improve his club. Jacobs’ “revenge” was signing Lapointe away from Detroit!"  - MSG Network

So Jacobs gets publicly embarassed by Red Wings owner Mike Ilitch in front of the 28 other owners during a league meeting. Ilitch calls him a cheap SOB and tells him the only thing he has ever won was a #1 Draft Pick. So what does Jacobs do??? He highballs Martin Lapointe to an offer he cant refuse, a third line role player to a $20 Million dollar Contract to get back at Ilitch.

And this is an owner who took Ray Bourque to Salary Arbitration!

The worst thing for Bruins fans to contemplate is how many seasons in the late 80's and early 90's were the Bruins one or two players away from potentially winning the Stanley Cup. How big of a difference would the $5 million a season made then. Jacobs could have spent that money at any time but why would he? The building was sold out every single game. Thats why.

Thats also why It's a shame that even one seat would be filled for him next season.

"That guy from New York"

Jacobs says its not an issue that star playoff proven veterens like Mike Modano dont want to come and play for the Bruins.
Jacobs doesnt even know Jaromir Jagrs name!!!

WEEI a Boston sports radio station recently had a segment called 'Owners Week' in which the owners of the Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics and Revolution came on in studio to talk about the current state of there team. (Jacobs was the only one who declined to come in studio) During the half hour long Interview Jeremy Jacobs didnt know Jaromir Jagrs name and could only refer to him as "that guy from New York" could not recall Nikolai Khabibulin who he kept calling "the goalie from Chicago" and kept insisting he was the highest paid player in the game even when the host tried to tell him other wise.

Jacobs also says its not a big issue that players like Peter Forsberg and Mike Modano publicly say that they dont want to come to Boston even if they are offered more money
.

Dale Arnold:"Is any player worth a max contract 20% of a teams salary cap?"(25:00 Time in interview if you wish to fast forward)
Jeremy Jacobs: "Yea.. yea... I would, i would, I would say that in the case of a.. of a... the guy, the guy ah... in New York"
Dale & Holley (in unison): Jaromir Jagr?
Jeremy Jacobs:"Yea, yea him"
